Thanks for all your good wishes. AJ was feeling much better this morning and now we’re running into a different kind of trouble with his recovery: keeping him still. He woke up early and very cheerful and requested no more medicine for now. In fact, he didn’t ask for Tylenol until the afternoon when he crashed for a little while. The Boy and Girl Next Door and The Boy Across The Street all came over to visit him, and this was fine for a while, but then it was not, because the four of them canposted by Jason Barrett on Jul 3
Who, investigative journalist Nicky Hager has been asking , is the real John Key? Had Hager employed his formidable investigative skills and purchased a copy of the Australian Woman’s Weekly, he would have some of the answer. Key is the subject of a piece written by Graeme Sinclair, the host of a televisions show called Gone Fishin’. “In John I saw a raw energy and quick intelligence,” writes Sinclair, who took the National leader out on a spear fishing expedition in Whangaparoa. “I also heardposted by Jason Barrett on Jul 3
Seattle natives always say “July 4th is the first day of summer.” Lucky for us we’ve warmed up a bit earlier this year…because it’s supposed to rain on the 4th. But that hasn’t stopped us from pretending! We headed to a baseball game at Safeco field to celebrate our birthday earlier in June: And Martin got his summer gear out and has been sporting his Avvo shirt around the office: Mark went fishing and caught a brown trout: And we’re planning a good old fashioned BBQ for later this suposted by Jason Barrett on Jul 3
It's a busy day today! I drove Christopher to his class this morning since I wanted to stop by the Super Target near the college (even though it meant I just had to peruse cooking and decorating books in the library for an hour as I waited on him... how difficult!). :) His CAD class lasts for three hours (or more). Thankfully, most of the organic products at Target have not gone up much (butter, eggs, and organic Smucker's preserves are the three I purchase the most). We were five then–Andrew hadn’t come to us yet–and that summer night as we slept in the Volkswagen camper, we suddenly awoke to noise. Someone–or something–was prowling around our camp site. Jerry scrambled out of bed, and I was close behind as he snatched up a flashlight, opened the camper door and pierced a beam into the black night. There they were–raccoons–fat ones with their nimble fingers still around the 3-pound-coffee can into which I had placed the home made cookies–think they wereposted by Jason Barrett on Jul 3
Satoshi had the day off, so we went to Arashiyama. Most areas were decorated for Tanabata on the 7th. (See the large bamboo poles with decorations hanging from them?) It's ayu (river smelt) season too, we saw this old man fishing with a really long pole. Last year, we came about the same time to see the hasu no hana (lotus flowers). This year, they seem to be a little late. There were some blooming, but I think in a week or two they will be in full bloom. There were some tombo (dragonfly).posted by Jason Barrett on Jul 3
Since this was to be the last day of decent weather before a heat wave moves in, Lily & I decided we better go out fishing again. Cody started off catching some good ones and then I caught a couple. Next, Lily & her Barbie pole kicked into gear and she caught the biggest so far of the week at 24 inches! Jace and Grandpa caught a few and then tragedy struck. Nobody was watching Lily's pole when it got snagged. Ray got to it just as it snapped in half. We had to take a few moments o
